Looking for some ways to treat Earth kindly today? You’re not alone. Many people take the opportunity to do things on Earth Day such as clean roadsides, beaches, and recycle items. Did you know, you can maintain tile in an environmentally friendly way as well?
What is Earth Day?
Earth Day is a celebration of the focus on the environment. Since 1970, the holiday’s observance has increased to nearly 200 countries from across the globe. This includes education programs, seminars, and other Earth-related activities.
There are certainly important aspects of the tile business in terms of being environmentally conscious throughout the tile acquisition process and beyond. From mining to maintenance – there are steps all parties can do to lessen an impact on the environment. Let’s touch on the homeowner’s side of tile, and how keeping its beauty for a long time can be done organically.
Dealing with Bathroom mold in your tile’s grout? It is extremely common, and treatable. Try mixing one part hydrogen peroxide 3% with two parts water and shake up in a spray bottle. Spray down the moldy area, wait 60 minutes and rinse. The mold dies pretty quickly and the peroxide deep cleans the grout and helps fight stains.
A great basic tile cleaner is a simple mix of one cup vinegar per one-gallon water. You can add peppermint or lemon oil or other oils to experiment with scents. After mopping/wiping down the tile initially, make sure to rinse with clean water, or go over again with clean water and a mop/cloth. Make sure not to use too much vinegar – as it can break down the grout in between tiles.
Looking to scrub your tile? Utilize baking soda – which deodorizes AND lifts stains as it cleans. That’s an added bonus we all like!
Household items we have laying around may double as eco-friendly cleaners. Do some research and find formulas you prefer!
